arlier this week Google announced that it had launched a new website in association with the SBA with the aim to assist small businesses to leverage the web. The site primarily consist of video clips that include case studies covering such topics about how to build a Web site, how to use social media marketing, listings, and on line videos to promote your business and give it greater visibility on the web. And of course, it includes how to utilize paid search and Google Analytics. The problems is that the whole site is more of a slickly produced infomercial featuring testimonials of small business owners who have had some success in using social media and Google's own marketing services to engage their customers. There is nothing wrong with that. However, there are literally hundreds of sites on the web that extol the virtues of having an on line presence and do a much better job providing usual information on how to get actually started. There is no "meat" in the Google/SBA site. Like most infomercials, the site is more of a "teaser". In the end, the small business owner still is stuck with the question "How do I get started".
